Will this finally put them over the hump? Or will they underachieve like they have the past five years?
Damon LF Jeter SS Teixeira 1B Rodriguez 3B Matsui DH Posada C Nady RF Cano 2B Gardner or Cabrera CF
Rotation Sabathia Wang Burnett Chamberlain Hughes, Kennedy or Aceves
Bench Swisher Molina Ransom or a utility infielder type Cabrera or Gardner
Bullpen Rivera Marte Bruney Albaladejo, Veras, Robertson, Ramirez, Coke or Melancon (pick three) Giese or Aceves

It look like they still have room for Manny Ramirez to DH.

Other than Teixeira and A-Rod, that lineup is not scary. Damon and Jeter are declining. Matsui is always injured. Posada is going to have a fall-off like Varitek did. Nady is average. Cano and Melky have only gotten worse. Garden is the white Juan Pierre.
You could argue they will be weaker offensively since they've only replaced Giambi AND Abreu with Teixeira.
Their OF defense is going to be one of the worst in all of baseball unless they can get Cameron. Their IF defense isn't much better since they have the worst defensive SS in baseball.

They are going to try to win this year with pitching first. But Damon is not declining as a hitter, he hit 300+ last year, and he's only playing left field, where he isn't as limited where he would be in CF, where Cardner/Melky are both incredible defensively. Nady isn't tremendous but he's solid and he'll probably hit 285+ and play a decent RF. Jeter isn't what he used to be but he's still got that leadership with him. Cano made great strides in september and has been working non stop since the season ended with hitting coach Kevin Long. And we all know how good A-Rod and Teixiera are. I'm also kinda hoping that Madonna "inspired" Arod and he'll return to his old self. He does seem to win the MVP every other year..

Damon had a 330 BAbip last year. He's not going to duplicate that and put up the same numbers from last year.
Melky is not great. He takes bad routes on balls and has mental lapses. The only good thing is his arm. Never seen Gardner. Probably gets to a lot of balls b/c of his speed. That said, he had 7 extra base hits last year. He has no power whatsoever and isn't worth keeping in the lineup. Cano always finishes strong, then he looks lost from April to June. It's the same thing every year. He's never going to be a great player OR put up numbers like he did in 2006. He still can't take a walk.
Nady will more likely hit 270/330/460. He only hit 268/320/474 with the Yankees last year. He strikes out a lot and doesn't walk enough.

Damon had a 330 BAbip last year. He's not going to duplicate that and put up the same numbers from last year. His LD% was 22.2% which makes it sustainable. LD% / 100 + .120 = xBABIP

A 330 BAbip is still damn lucky and difficult to sustain. Before this year he was declining anyway. Look for that trend to continue.
