AP, CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs, along with GM Dick Kloppel, and President, James T. Westpaul, would like to announce that they are in negotiations with the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois and the Chicaco Cubs ownership group, I.P. Freely Associates, to add Wrigley Field to the states list of historic sites, and build a new stadium in downtown Chicago.
The new site will mimic the newly constructed New York pallparks, and the Phillies' new facility, Citizen's Bank Park. It will however incorporate some old school design, to remain true to Wrigley's lineage.
Initial reports say that there will be NO corporate sponsorship and the stadium will be split three ways, with taxpayer money paying for 2/3rd of the stadium. Initial discussions put the new stadium to be in use by opening day 2012.
The proposed dimensions are not uniform, left estimated at 343ft w/ a 10 foot OF fence, center 408ft w/ a 8 foot fence, and right 328ft w/ a 13 ft fence.
The name of the new facility has not yet been released.
