This is coming from the team that threw over to first 5 or 6 times after Castillo came up lame when he got to first.
This is pathetic. Managers stall when they make pitching changes. Batters stall (see Nomar Garciaparra) and pitchers do, too (they stop off the mound, make pick off throws).
I'm so glad Maine knocked Ramirez out of the game a few days ago. About time they did something to thesethugs bitches.
CHICAGO -- The Marlins weren't happy with the way the Mets took their time Wednesday getting pinch-hitter Omir Santos to the plate with the game in the balance in the bottom of the ninth.
''We will talk to Major League Baseball about it,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said before Thursday's game at Wrigley Field. ``I don't know if you can do anything; I don't know if you can get a clock on it. It's gamesmanship. But [Marlins president of baseball operations] Larry [Beinfest] is going to write a letter. We'll see where it goes from there.''
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth and the bases loaded, Mets manager Jerry Manuel decided to go to Santos to pinch hit. The problem was, Santos was catching in the bullpen.
Closer Matt Lindstrom had to spend several minutes waiting for Santos to make his way to the field. When Santos finally did, he popped out to shortstop Alfredo Amezaga to end the game.
The Marlins had suspected the Mets were trying to ice Lindstrom. It turns out they were right.
''I was trying to delay the game, too,'' Manuel told New York reporters after the game.
``I was trying to do everything I could to get the guy off a little bit. So it didn't work. Twenty-second timeouts, or whatever, delay of game -- I did everything I could.''
Apparently, Santos also stopped along the way in from the bullpen and took six or seven swings in the clubhouse batting cages.
