Chicago Cubs Trade:
1B Lee, Derrek 33 $13,000,000 2 84 84 9.1 0 LF Soriano, Alfonso 33 $17,666,666 6 88 88 9.5 0 $4.5 Million in Cash (25% of Soriano's first year salary)
to the Minnesota Twins for: CF Gomez, Carlos 23 $400,000 Arb '10 80 86 9.0 0 RP Breslow, Craig 28 $400,000 Arb '10 79 79 8.4 0
I know this looks like a completely lopsided trade ... but let's consider the facts. Soriano is 33 years old, on a 6 year, $18 mil contract. The Cubs get this off the books and make way for Milton Bradley to move back to his natural spot in the corner outfield. The Cubs also get rid of Lee's $26 mil owed over the next two years. Josh Willingham will now become the starting firstbaseman and should provide similar stats as Lee.
Chicago finally gets its MUCH needed, true leadoff hitter. Gomez and Theriot will cause HAVOC at the top of the Cubs lineup. Abreu will be moved down to the #3 spot, Ramierz to clean up, and Bradley to his more comfortable #5 slot.
Craig Breslow is a bullpen arm throw in for depth purposes. Should make the team over Aaron Heilman.
Minnesota is poised for a BIG run and has a lot of young outfield depth. They take on this salary b/c Soriano and Lee help them RIGHT NOW.
I accept this deal and will adjust my lineup accordingly.

Well i have to deny, with this deal and the deal for carlos lee the Twins have taken on almost 50 million dollars in salary, that to much considering he was already over budget to begin with, And all 3 of these players are old and have LONG contracts so this team will be bascically screwed financially.
EDIT: He also has a deal pending for Adrian Beltre and his $12million dollar salary, that would be over 60 milllion over budget, you may be right saying he wants to take on the salary but i promise his team will NEVER EVER recoperate from the damage of taking on that kind of salary.

i think if you figure the SALARY and the AGE of the players the TWINS is taking on makes it LOPSIDED, and factor in that he's actually giving up a good young player in Carlos Gomez to get these scrubs makes this deal an EASY DENY koufax123.......

Guys i hate to come off as a guy who Deny's deals, cause i want people to be able to make deal's they want, But when i see a guy trading a young GOOD player in Carlos Gomez for two 33 year old SCRUBS who are making OBSCENE amounts of money i will DENY every time. Sorry if you dont like it but thats just the way it will be.....

Cincyreds .... You are single handedly driving people away from participating in this league. THis trade is 100% fair and in reality CHICAGO gets the lower end of this deal. Have you simmed w/ Soriano?? Yes he has a monster 6 yr contract. But in the first three years he puts up HUGE numbers. I think it was some average of .280 38hr 105 rbi out of my 2 hole.
Lee also puts up decent, serviceable numbers. He only has a 2 yr contract, so that wasn't a big investment. I actually took a lower rated prospect in Gomez, instead of Delmon Young.
You need to let GM's make their own decisions. You are the GM of ONE team, not all of them. Stop denying trades b/c you think you know everything. You don't know shit.

A) there is no real reason to call these guys scrubs, both lee and soriano are good players, even at the advanced age. i think soriano has at least 3 or 4 more good years left. lee can hit .285 and 20+ hr this year if not both of his years which leads me to....... B) lee is actually only under contract for two years, so assuming he is trying to win right now, the trade fills a hole at first base, which he can then get rid of at the end of next year, or if he wants to keep lee, i bet he is able to resign him to an extension for less money after this year. C) what chicago gets back is less than they send away talent wise (right now) its really the salery they want to dump.
For these reasons, i still approve.
plus I don't call other people names, which is what really drives people away.
