I accept. Acquiring both Hosmer and Cortes help my rebuilding cause seeing that I pickup a strong future 1B and SP while Berkman can potentially help the Royals win within the next few years.
I would like to point out that the 8 mil a year that is going to the Royals means he gets $8 mil in '09 and then another $8 mil in '10 and thats it because Berkman expires after the 2010 season.

the point of rebuilding a team is acquiring younger talent that the GM feels will bloom into excellent ballplayers. With the acquisition of Hosmer, he will become the core of the future of the Astros infield. Many of the players I already acquired will be MLB ready in most likely the next 3-4 seasons, which is when Berkman's talent will probably start to wane. I'd rather have a solid young group of infielders that are all MLB ready at once so they can work together for many seasons to come instead of possibly having to replace Berkman when he's 40 or 41 years old and the rest of my players are in their mid to late 20s.

Dude if you want to give him away thats fine. But paying for his salary, which he will be worth every penny he makes, SEEM'S CRAZY. That's all im saying here. Berkman will be a MVP type player for the next 2 years, So no need to pay for HALF his salary.

Deny, you can't pay for the contract each year, you can only include cash in the initial trade.

I can only do that by $8M x 2 years = $16M Cash. Astros barely have enough to pay that. So do Astros still want to do that?

I wouldn't pay 16M in one year...I thought you could trade over $8M one season then trade over another $8M next season..if that's the case where I can barely pay for it then no I don't want to follow through.
