New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez was declared as most valuable player in Major League Baseball in 2009.
Rodriguez popularly known as A-Rod lead the Yankees to its 27th World Series title since 2000.
The award is extra-special for Rodriguez since the past MLB season had been a tough year for him as a professional baseball player.
Before the MLB season started, A-Rod was embroiled in a controversy after he admitted using steroids as performance enhancing drugs.
Rodriguez apologized for his illegal act and vowed not to do it again for the sake of the Yankees organization, the fans and most especially to his family.
After his drug controversy, A-Rod suffered injury which required surgery that sideline him for majority of the baseball season.
However, upon his return from injury Rodriguez played big for his team that resulted to their MLB crown.
Rodriguez batted .365 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 15 games in the MLB postseason, quickly putting to rest his reputation for failing when it mattered most he had 8-for-59 (.136) in the postseason since 2004 before going on a tear to lead New York to its 27th title.
Rodriguez thanked the fans for being patient with him after helping the Yankees win their first title since 2000.
It was his first trip to the World Series in a 16-year career. He joined the Yankees in '04.
A-Rod was very emotional with his MVP award since it came when his professional career was put to test.
