Who has the best shutdown 7-8-9 to end the game? I gotta go with: Justin Speier Scot Shields Francisco Rodriguez #2) Braves (Gonzalez, Soriano, Wickman) #3) Tigers (Rodney, Zumaya, Jones) #4) Padres (Meredith, Linebrink, Hoffman) #5) White Sox (Thornton, MacDougal, Jenks)

You do? Never woulda guessed that. yea, u should be suprised that he picked a great reliever followed by the reliever with the 3rd lowest era in the league, who didnt giv up a run for 27 innings to start the season, followed by a closer that had 40 and almost 2 K's per inning...?

You do? Never woulda guessed that. Honestly, there are not that many to choose from. Not every team has a regular set-up man and fewer have a 7th inning guy.

OK hold back fellas...it was obviously a joke...as you guys are pretty die hard toward your teams...I totally expected one of the you come on and say the Mets...

This is best 7-8-9, not worst 7-8-9.

Jones is pretty average as a closer. But when you have Zumaya and Rodney, it puts them up higher in my book. To be able to use Rodney, a guy with an amazing change-up and then use Zumaya throwing the gas, it's a good combo. Jones does an alright job. ERA isn't everything.
My picks are: 1) Tigers 2) Angels 3) Padres

With relivers, the IRA is more important than ERA.

This shouldn't be up for debate, it's the Angels. Spier and Shields are solid, and K-Rod is dominant. You can't go with the Mets because Wagner blew a lot of saves last season. The Tigers have a bad closer. The Yankees have Bruney for the 7th and the clutchest closer of all time in the 9th, but Farnsworth is a mess in the 8th.
