It's a cheap shot plain and simple. Although it is not against the rules, it should be. Unsportsmanlike conduct like that should not be allowed.

One of the beat writers for the Mets was on this show where they were talk about current events in sports. He said if Troy Glaus was playing 3B, A-Rod would have been decked into the stands.

How is it cheating? Cheating would imply that there is a rule against it.
Some may think that it is a cheap shot, and they may have a point. But A-Rod took advantage of the fact that it was a chance to make something happen. He's trying to put his team in the best position to succeed. The play is alright by me. If you can't handle someone distracting you, you shouldn't be in the major leagues.

But A-Rod took advantage of the fact that it was a chance to make something happen. They were already winning. There was no need to do it except to push the story about his girlfriend to page 2.

Yeah, you're right. Once you get a 2 run lead, the game is over. That must have slipped my mind, my bad... When a team's bullpen isn't exactly dominating, the last thing you want to do is keep a game close in the late innings. But whatever, I think the play was fine. It shouldn't be encouraged, but he shouldn't be punished or criticized because of it IMO.

Guys shouldn't be called out when they do something sleazy and unsportsmanlike. If someone did this to A-Rod, he'd be fuming and saying how cheap it is.

Yeah when A-Rod does something nasty like that baseball fans in general should approve it and move on. That was a nasty move that can ruin baseball if it become a common thing. Don't forget this is A-Rod we are talking about, he'll slap a baseball out of a fielder hand if he has to.
