The Cards barely slipped by the Mets last year. The Mets hitters shut down durin the playoos hittin as a team around .220. The Mets pitchers, like perez and maine and glavine exceeded and played very well. And the offense has matured too. IT will be hard for the Cards to repeat since they did nothin in the offseason to improve. The MEts didnt really do much either but the Mets have by far a much more potent line up anmd bullpen then the Cards. Teams like the dodgers and phillies are also emerging buty still need a year or two to consider them true contenders of a world series ring. Botht teams have great prsopects who will help them down the line. But as for this upcoming year, I believ the Mets have the best chance of breaking through and becomin NL champions

The Cards really got worse. There two starter at this point if Mulder gets hurt is Kip Wells! They should have got some pitching this offseason. There pitching is the worst rotation in the NL Central that can contend. If Pujols has a Derrek Lee injury they are done. He is there only strong point besides Carpenter. You can't count on Edmonds and Rolen lately. I mean they weren't expected to win it last year. They won the NL Central last year with around 85 games? The Cubs and Astros will both win that many. I say they will be lucky to make it to the playoffs. i'd say the Cubs will because they had the strongest offseason. There was many teams who spent alot of dumb money, the Cubs did also but they also had some good signings. I also like the Mets because of their great lineup.

And anyways, no matter how good their offense is, it'll never be as good as the Yankees offense was last postseason, and they were held scoreless for 20 innings against Detroit. So just because the Mets have a good offense doesn't mean anything-especially when you consider they have even less pitching this season.

As baseball has proven over the last few years, it's very difficult to win back-to-back championships. I think the Cards have the advantage in playing in MLB's weakest division (the Cubs don't scare me), but I think the Dodgers, Mets and Phillies could all finish ahead of them. I love Chris Carpenter, but any time you lose starting pitching you're going to struggle. I think Reyes is the wildcard in their rotation; if he pitches like Verlander, Liriano or Josh Johnson did last year, the Cards have as good a shot as any team to compete in the N.L. Pujols and Rolen form a great nucleus, but I think they still need to add a couple bats. Of course with Tony LaRussa as their manager they'll always have a shot to win.
If its not the cardinals then I say it’s the tigers. They didn’t lose anything important this year and added a great bat in Sheffield. There younger pitchers get more experience and have a shot to come out with better #’s. Its nothing but uphill for them.

The Cubs had some good signings, but as always, they have history against them. And anyways, their pitching is still lacking. As for the Mets, their great lineup means nothing. In the end, it always comes down to the pitching, which they're not strong enough in.

You made a lot "if" points. If Pujols gets hurt. If Mulder gets hurt. Plus, we don't know if the Astros will have Clemens next year. But I still agree that they should have gotten more insurance.

btw for global moderator... thats doesntmean anything
the tigers held the best offense to nothin but lost a worse offense then the Mets in the worldseries. if ur sayin the cards are better than the yanks i cant agree wit u.... And if ur sayin the Mets arent better than the cards, which the topic is about, NL NL NL NL, than idk, so lets reivew... Tigers beat yanks, cards beat mets, and cards beat tigers.... so then the cards must have the best pitchin right, but they dont... which one
