The A.L. Central division title will be a very close race.
But it will be won by the Detroit Tigers.
Here's why:
The Tigers have arguably the best rotation in the Central. Cleveland's rotation is very good. But the Tigers have the veteran leadership of Rogers, electric stuff with Verlander and Bonderman, and some solid pitching out of Robertson.
They have a nice balance of crafty veterans like Sheffield, Polanco, and Pudge. They are surrounded by the offensive forces of Monroe/Thames, Ordonez and Guillen.
Their role players step up when it counts, like Inge and Casey.
They do tend to strike out quite a lot. But they have a great balance of power in their line-up from top to bottom.
Not to mention a top 5 bullpen, with Rodney/Zumaya/Jones as the rock of the bullpen.
The White Sox will certainly give them a run for their money. But their rotation took a big blow with an injured Buerhle last year, along with losing Garcia and McCarthy this off season.
The Twins suffered major losses to their strength of starting pitching. Liriano is out for the season, and Radke is gone. They have some young rising stars, but they haven't surrounded their stars with proven players yet. Not to mention the loss of Shannon Stewart.
The Indians have a great rotation and have improved their bullpen.
But I don't think they have the capability to stick with the top teams in the AL for an entire season. I can see them being a streaky team. They tend to rely too much on Hafner to pull them through.
So my pick is the Tigers, but the White Sox or Indians may get the WC.

I am going to say the Tigers will win the division. Out of all the AL Central teams, they are the most well rounded. They have a great lineup that has gotten even better with Sheffield. Their lineup doesn't have big stars like A-Rod but together they are greater than the sums of their parts. Their rotation is the best in baseball and their bullpen is just as good with Rodney, Zumaya, and Jones. So long as they stay healthy, they will be tough competition for their division rivals; as well as all other teams.
The Indians could very well win the division. Their lineup is great with Hafner and Sizmore and have a solid rotation as well. They were close to the playoffs 2 years ago and are even better now. However, I don't see them having as strong a bullpen as the Tigers and they may have a platoon situation in the OF. They are definitely Wild Card worthy.
The White Sox had a mediocre rotation last year and now it's just gotten worse losing Garcia and McCarthy. Their offense is usually productive but I don't see another MVP season in Dye.
The Twins have a really weak rotation after Johan Santana. Their lineup lacks the power to support the pitching 4 out of 5 days.
The Royals will probably win 65 games if they're lucky. Meche's contract is horrible and they are far from being a playoff caliber team for a long time.

Can I post my Carl Pavano comment now so I can watch Scrubs?
I'm going to. I'll check this during a commerical.
Carl Pavano is capable of getting 10 wins. His main obstacle is staying healthy AND consistent to get them. He has more than enough run support from his lineup to get 10 wins. However, the big question will be his ERA. I predict him having a 5.00 ERA. He pitches in the AL and pitches most games in a hitter's park. I'm predicting he'll get 11-9 with a 5.00 ERA assuming he stays healthy and consistent for a long period of time. If he is on and off the DL, then more likely 6-10 with a 6.00 ERA.
