I believe the NL Central is the worst division in baseball. It is pathetic that the Cardinals only had 83 wins in a division with the Brewers (no offense), Cubs, and Pirates. The Reds vanished about 3/4 into the season while the Astros got really hot those last 10 games. The Cardinals have lost more than they've gained this off-season; including their post-season heroes Weaver and Suppan. Other than Carpenter, their rotation has a lot of question marks. Reyes had a very good post-season and a decent season for a rookie. But I don't see him turning into a 20-game winner with a low ERA. Mulder is recovering from surgery so he is not going to be 100% either. The rest of their rotation is a blur after that. Call me crazy, but I think the Cubs will win it. At this point, all we have is the 2006 stats of their players and their opening day roster and rotation. I think it is very good. If Prior and Wood are healthy and can win 8-10 games and Lily adjusts to the NL, they will be tough. Their offense is very potent as well. Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, and Alfonso Soriano can carry them far. Cliff Floyd can be a powerful lefty and playing in a small Wrigly Field will help carry his long fly balls out of the park. So right now, I am putting money on the Cubs to win. I think the millions they payed this off-season will pay off.

you have a lot "if" in there but still very good, 5 points, also when was the las time Wood and Prior both played 3/4 of the season? And Ted Lilly is pretty bad imo.

Lilly is no Koufax, but he had decent numbers in the AL and being out of there will help him.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but I am going with the Cubbies despite how crazy it sounds. I know I am probably going to have to eat my words on it.
Give me a minute to type my response

For the most improved team, I am picking the Dodgers. They've filled the hole in LF with Luis Gonzalez. They have Leiberthal to tutor the future star Russel Martin behind the plate. Their rotation is very impressive with the acquisition of Schmidt and Wolf. Juan Pierre plays with a lot of heart and can be very good. I think they made the best deals while still being practical unlike the rival Giants (Barry and Barry).

Juan Pierre and his .330 OBP? Shoot I'd take Joey Gathright over him. Their already a good team, I don't think they'll win 100 though to be the "most improved team".
The most improved team - was probably the worst team last year. The Kansas City Royals are easily the most improved team this offseason.
Standing out the most, Royals GM Dayton Moore signed Gil Meche and his 4.48 ERA from a year ago, to a 5 year contract at 55 million bucks. Not only that, Dayton went out and signed 3 relievers to beef up the pen, RHP's Octavio Dotel and David Riske, and and LHP from Japan a year ago, John Bale. Dotel should nail down the closer spot, replacing Ambiorix Burgos who blew 12 saves in 2006. The inconsistant Burgos and Andrew Sisco were sent out and replaced by emerging youngster SP Brian Bannister and veteran leader 1B/OF Ross Gload. The Royals also brought in veteran C Jason LaRue to do some catching, and to push youngster John Buck. LaRue is widely regarded to having one of the best arms in the league and calls a great game. While they brought in some more legitimate talent, they may have improved more on "addition by subtraction", sending out C Paul Bako (ugh a .490 OPS!!), Burgos (5.52 ERA, 12 BS), Sisco (7.10 ERA), and the inconsistant, out of shape Runelvys Hernandez (6.48 ERA).
The Royals may have also came up with the steal of the decade, nabbing RHP Joakim Soria in the Rule 5 draft from the Padres. Playing in the Mexican League, the Padres thought he was hidden well. Obviously he wasn't and he posted a 2.41 ERA while in Mexico, and threw a perfect game on December 9th.
Kansas City definitely improved the most this offseason. Hot prospects 3B Alex Gordon and RF Billy Butler could both be in the lineup as well. Look for them to improve by 12 games, bring them to a 74-88 record for 2007.

It's easy for them to be the most improved when they started out as the 2nd worst.

I look for David Wright to win the HR derby this year. Last year he had 20 HR's going into the derby, but the derby screwed his swing up a bit in the 2nd half and didn't hit as well.
He was the clear leader after round 1 last year, belting 16, leading by 6 over David Ortiz and by 8 over eventual winner Ryan Howard. This year he will pace himself a little better and not get so tired in the later rounds (only 2 and 4 in the 2nd and 3rd rounds). I'll take Wright winning over Lance Berkman in the finals 6-4.
