The St Louis Cardinals will not be much different of a team in 07. Even without the likes of Suppan, Marquis and Belliard on the team i dont think it would be too big of a difference to how they finish. Ever since Albert Pujols draped the red cardinals logo across his chest he has carried the team and made them a legitimate contender year after year - finally winning the title last season. With the assets they have i dont expect them to finish worse then first place in their division, and even if they need something to push them over the top at the trade deadline they have more then enough assets to deal to get what they need for a chance at the Series again. I look to OF Chris Duncan and SP Anthony Reyes, both of which will have breakout years in 07, this with argueablly the best ace in the majors (carpenter) and the best hitter in the majors (pujols) i have no doubt the cards will be dominant again in 07.

to determine the success of the cardinals i looked at a few things the aquisitions, the division and the players that came on strong at the end of the season. but to me when it come down to it i think that the cardinals made key mistakes by doing things like switching braden looper to a starter it just seems like they will not match up against the cubs although they will compete for a wild card spot i dont think carpentar and pujols can carry them that far. i agree with most of jtcorbiel's points but being a mets fan i know how great offense and mediocre pitching can take you far
